What is faith and why do you need it?

Faith is normally associated with religion. The Christian Bible, specifically Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as the "substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen".

When we look a little closely at the definition of faith as defined in the Christian Bible we can clearly see that faith is not limited to religion. It talks about "things hoped for". If there is something that you want, you can use faith to get it, because your faith is the "substance" of those things you're hoping for. Let’s quickly look at the meaning of the word, "substance"

    sub•stance (sbstns)
    noun.
    1.
    a. That which has mass and occupies space; matter.
    b. A material of a particular kind or constitution.
    2.
    a. Essential nature; essence.
    b. Gist; heart.
    3. That which is solid and practical in character, quality, or importance: a plan without substance.
    4. Density; body: Air has little substance.
    5. Material possessions; goods; wealth: a person of substance.

So, after reading through these definitions we can conclude that "faith is made up of" or "represents all that you hope for". The definition in the Christian Bible also refers to faith as the "evidence of things not seen".

Your faith is the substance, essence or evidence of those things that you hope for. Those things that are not yet seen by others yet, but they're seen by you. Through your faith, you give those things life. And because you believe they are real, and that it’s only a matter of time before they appear in physical form you keep moving forward, doing whatever you need to do, until it does appear in physical form.

Faith is like a woman who is in the early stages of being pregnant. Only she knows that she's pregnant. Even if she tells the doctor, he may not believe that she is pregnant until he has done some tests to confirm the pregnancy.

Faith is like that, except there are no instruments that can confirm if your dream will come true. It will be up to you alone to keep this dream alive through your belief and the actions that you take. Although sometimes, the universe sends you people who will grab hold of your vision and believe with you.

Most people believe they have little faith or that their faith is somehow, not enough. However, as an author whose book I recently read says, there is no small or big faith.

You either believe in something or you don't. And when you don't believe in something, you usually believe in its opposite. It is simply not possible to believe a little in something and a little in its opposite.

For example, if you don't believe that your dream will come true; than you believe that it will not come true. If that is the case than there is no way that your dream will come true, because the "substance" or the "evidence" if you will… is missing. This is the essence, the thing that keeps your dream alive and kicking.

Any action that you take in the absence of this will be dead action; it will be fruitless.

However action that is driven by faith is so powerful, even if you're the only one believing that it has to eventually come true, no matter how far-fetched or impossible it may seem to others.

“Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe.”
